This is a traditional Japanese custom to celebrate a baby's first birthday by having them carry a sho (approximately 1.5 kg) of rice on their back, as a wish for their continued healthy growth.The name "issho" (one sho) and "issho" (lifetime) are playfully combined to express the wish that one will never have to worry about food throughout their life.
